Call for Abstracts

Theme: Changing with the times: Trusted technology advice

Objective: Educate attendees on the evolving use of digital health tools, such as how to:

• Access more patient data 
• Communicate with other health care providers 
• Improve their use of EMRs and integrated digital health tools to enhance patient care and practice efficiency in a way that works better for clinicians, staff, and patients.  

Target Audience: Community-based clinicians (physicians and nurse practitioners) and their staff.   

OntarioMD (OMD) is accepting abstracts for under four different streams. Please keep in mind that we are focusing on community-based primary care physicians and specialists only (not hospital-based) and on the use of OMD-certified EMRs and digital health tools that can integrate with these EMRs now or in the future. Sessions in each stream will be accredited for Continuing Medical Education (CME).

Conference Program Format 

Stream 1: Advancing patient care using technology  

This stream focuses on using best practices and/or widely-used technology that are having a positive impact on patient care such as EMRs and solutions integrated with them. 

Examples: Effective use of EMR data to identify care gaps; improvements to patient engagement and education; using clinical decision support during visits; managing patient populations; managing complex conditions using technology; managing changes to workflow introduced by technology; promoting coordinated care leveraging technology. 

Stream 2: Finding the joy in medicine (again) 

This stream examines the use of technology or resources to find the joy in medicine, restore clinicians' work-life balance and decrease the administrative burden and worry. 

Examples: Advanced use of technology: Proactive panel management; streamlining workflows and leveraging technology features to facilitate documentation, requisitions, and/or communications; appointment and time management; decreasing wait times; facilitating information retrieval at the point of care; billing optimization;  

Use of training and resources: Privacy & security training; business continuity plans; disaster recovery plans; EMR data retention and retirement; data governance in a digital health world; using the EMR during a CPSO assessment; 

Stream 3: Using AI and innovative technologies in community-based clinics

This stream focuses on new and emerging technologies that clinicians are beginning to use to enhance patient care or to realize practice efficiencies. 

Examples: Use of AI to free up clinician and staff time; augmenting clinical decision making; providing better access to care for patients; patient empowerment in their own care; mobile apps; secure communications/messaging; quality/population management dashboards; patient portals benefitting patients; interfaces with medical devices; innovative improvements to EMR functionality.   

Stream 4: Sponsored Stream (Short Snappers)  

OMD offers a fourth stream at the conference to highlight businesses.  

Does your company or organization have an innovative solution to help physician practices? Are you thinking about partnering with OMD to increase awareness of your product or service? Would you like to get in front of hundreds of clinicians?  

Submit an abstract featuring the value of your product or service. Successful abstracts will have the opportunity to present to clinicians and digital health decision makers.

Examples: Novel ways to use certified EMRs, or other digital health and virtual care solutions integrated (or future integration) with certified EMRs that improve practice efficiency and patient care. 

Presentation Format Options 

Breakout Session - 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for questions (Max: 500 words. Limited to 2 presenters.) 

Panel Session - 45 minutes plus 15 minutes for questions (Max: 500 words. Limited to 3 presenters.) 

Short Snappers – 10 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions (Max: 500 words. Limited to 2 presenters). Short Snappers focus on specific uses of new products or technology (special $500 fee tailored to small businesses).  

While every effort will be made to accommodate requests for breakout or panel sessions, OntarioMD reserves the right to change the session format for successful abstract submissions (e.g., from panel to breakout session or Short Snapper).

Abstract Guidelines 

• Sessions will be CME-accredited by the regulatory colleges and abstracts must therefore be educational in nature to be eligible for consideration. Sessions aim to increase clinicians' knowledge of the mature use of certified EMRs or technology integrated with EMRs.
  
  
• Vendors, government agencies and digital health organizations who wish to promote a specific product for sale to clinicians can only submit abstracts under the Short Snappers sponsored stream ($500 fee if approved). For organizations that would like to do 30-minute or 60-minute sponsored sessions, please email us to learn more about availability.
