General Availability Date for Ontario EMR Specification Amendment 4.1A

On March 8, 2013, OntarioMD published Ontario EMR Specification Amendment v4.1A, forming part of the current Ontario EMR Specification requirements for an EMR Offering to be Funding Eligible.

Based on Reference Site validation schedules with EMR vendors, the release of Ontario EMR Specification Amendment 4.1A will be Generally Available on December 31, 2013. This is considered a Fix Release and upgrades need to be completed within four months, no later than April 30, 2014.

Since Amendment 4.1A addresses HRM changes, upgrade planning will need to be aligned with the HRM provincial rollout. The initial focus is for EMR vendors to complete the upgrades in LHINs 1 to12 no later than March 31, 2014 and to complete the upgrades for LHINs 13 and 14 by April 30, 2014. OntarioMD will work with EMR vendors, as necessary, to coordinate timing of specific practice upgrades.

The previous Ontario EMR Specification 3.0 was officially withdrawn on March 31, 2012. View Ontario EMR Specification Amendment 4.1A documentation and additional information; refer to section EMR Spec 4.1 on page EMR Spec 4.1.

Specialty-Specific EMR Requirement Specifications

On March 11, 2014, OntarioMD published the Specialty-Specific Funding Eligible EMR Offering submission and evaluation process along with the first Specialty-Specific Funding Eligible EMR Requirements Specification and EMR Release document. This initiative will improve adoption of funding eligible EMRs among community-based specialists, recognize and build on the success of specialties who have realized greater EMR adoption, better inform EMR vendors of the specialty-specific expectations that community-based specialists have of their EMRs, and build a model that can be leveraged for all community-based specialties.
