OMD: Amplifying Your Voice

Administrative burden has long cast a dark cloud over primary care physicians, but there may be rays of hope on the horizon. On February 21, the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) published an article in its Ontario Medical Review on the Health Report Manager (HRM) Task Force recommendations to reduce administrative burden. A pilot to trial those recommendations is currently underway. Participating hospitals are Queensway Carleton Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Central East Hospitals (including Campbellford Memorial Hospital, Haliburton Highlands Health Services, Lakeridge Health, Northumberland Hills Hospital, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Ross Memorial Hospital and Scarborough Health Network). A very special thank-you to these hospitals for their input and contribution to this pilot! Their participation will help us to validate the HRM recommendations, optimize implementation and assess the benefits for community-based clinicians. Stay tuned for updates as the pilot continues!

We’re making progress on other fronts to combat excessive administration:
  • The call for expressions of interest for the AI scribe evaluation study, in partnership with the eHealth Centre of Excellence (eCE) and Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV), is now closed. Candidates who applied by completing the online form will receive a response within a few weeks.
  • The burnout survey, launched with Dalhousie University to study technology’s role in physician burden, closes soon. If you haven’t already done so, please share your thoughts and complete the survey by March 18
Through these combined efforts, we’re working hard to show that you’re being heard.

Advice from the General Counsel and CPO

As health-care professionals, you rely on a growing list of new digital health tools. OMD is here to help you realize the benefits as well as the risks of these technologies. Formed in collaboration with the Ontario Regional Security Operations Centres (RSOCs), OMD's Privacy & Security Training Module for the Health Care Sector includes cybersecurity content and scenarios informed by real-world experiences. We recommend taking the module annually to fulfill training requirements, keep up with the latest practices, and stay informed about contemporary cyberthreats.

The training is relevant for clinicians in any setting in the Ontario health-care sector and is certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada's Ontario Chapter for 2 Continuing Medical Education Mainpro+ credits. Specialists can claim credit(s) under the Royal College Maintenance of Certification Program as a Section 2: Personal Learning Project for 2 credits/hour.

OMD Change Management & Adoption Services

Still Using Paper MTO Forms? There’s a Better Way!

With eForms, OMD is making form completion easier for you. eForms are digital forms that you can complete from the convenience of your EMR. They are better than other digital forms in EMRs, which when submitted, arrive as faxes to the recipient. With eForms, you no longer need to fax paper or digital forms, only to have them sent back because they are outdated or have incomplete information. There are 16 forms available from the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), with more on the way!
