Virtual care is now an established part of clinical practice. Throughout 2022, regulatory authorities have introduced new guidance for virtual care and the digital health tools that enable it. Among other things, Canada’s Privacy Commissioners issued a statement encouraging clinicians to wind downown the use of fax and other unsecured, analogue technologies in favour of more secure alternatives. The CPSO has also introduced a new Virtual Care Policy. In addition, a new Physician Services Agreement was reached, which includes standardized billing codes for virtual care and mandates the use of “Verified Virtual Visit Solutions”. In this session, OntarioMD’s General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer will provide an overview of these developments and will provide practical recommendations for the delivery of virtual care.
